Academic Support Coordinator, Anthropology & Sociology
In addition to teaching and as Contingent Faculty Liaison in the Anthropology Department, Keri Canada is the Academic Support Coordinator for students majoring in anthropology and sociology.
Keri earned both Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in anthropology from California State University, Fullerton, and has completed all coursework for a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Nevada, Reno. Before joining Colorado State University in 2013, she taught anthropology for six years at the University of Nevada, Reno and Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, NV, as well as in Colorado at both Front Range Community College and Red Rocks Community College.
Keri is primarily a medical anthropologist whose research has focused on human sexual and reproductive health behavior among adults in the United States; she also studies how patients make decisions about certain reproductive medical procedures. She has previously been published as a columnist and book reviewer in anthropology journals, and her M.A. thesis was published as a book in 2008; her second book, Exploring Cultural Anthropology, was published by Kendall Hunt in 2014. Keri is currently at work on an introductory cultural anthropology textbook.
In her roles as both Academic Support Coordinator and adjunct instructor, she strongly promotes internships, field schools, and study abroad programs – exploring the world helps to develop a greater understanding of human cultural diversity. She also advocates for students to form strong relationships with their academic departments and faculty mentors.
Outside of work, Keri enjoys reading, writing, and spending time outdoors with her family, friends, and dog. She has traveled in India as part of a medical anthropology field expedition, as well as parts of Europe, Canada, and Mexico.
