One of the best ways to learn about teaching online is hearing about the experiences of instructors who have taught online in the past. Dr. Julie Taylor-Massey and Dr. Elinor Light will join us to share advice about the nuts and bolts of teaching online including straightforward adjustments you could make even this semester. We’ll spend part of our time learning from them and part of the time in Q and A. Please email us for the Zoom link.

DR. JULIE TAYLOR-MASSEY is an Assistant Professor and part of the senior teaching faculty in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. She was involved in the launch of the first online courses offered by the department in 2006, and since 2010 has specialized in teaching in the online format. Julie has been recognized with multiple teaching honors including the CSU Online Innovative Educator Award as well as been nominated for that award several times and most recently for the CSU Alumni Association’s Best Teacher Award. Her interests include adolescence and early adulthood, the influence of technology on well-being, and online pedagogy. In addition to her time in the virtual classroom, she collaborates with an education publishing service to update and create lifespan development teaching and learning resources.

DR. ELINOR LIGHT is a Colorado native and attended CSU for her undergraduate and Master’s degrees. She attended the University of Utah for her Ph.D., but she loves CSU so much that she came back as an instructor. She is an artist at heart and she has been active in the Fort Collins and Loveland communities for many years. Much of what she studies in the academic realm is related to her love of art. She teaches courses in visual communication and her research focuses on how images work rhetorically to alter ideologies in the world. She has been teaching in an online context for nearly ten years and believes that by engaging an affective pedagogy, we can create exceptional educational experiences in online contexts. While her heart is in art, her joy lies in the classroom. Teaching CSU students is an honor, inspiration, and a privilege.
