Ph.D student Azmal Hossan’s essay on water injustice in South Asia with a special focus on the India-Bangladesh water relationship was published by Environmental Health News on September 15, 2021. In his piece “Weaponization of water in South Asia,” Azmal focuses on how climate change and regional imbalanced political economic structure made water a double-edged sword in Bangladesh.
Azmal was also the guest for a podcast jointly organized by the Agents of Change in Environmental Justice Fellowship program and Environmental Health News where he discussed how his positionality and his country’s legacy of fight against social injustice determined his research interests in climate, water, and food justice. “LISTEN: Azmal Hossan on the sociology of climate crises in South Asia” went live September 22, 2021.
Last fall Azmal was accepted to the Agents of Change in Environmental Justice Fellowship, a joint initiative of George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health and Environmental Health News.
